I was trying to understand how an app that I intend to contribute to was structured and was scanning through its many Git repositories. The path of least resistance was well worn. Some were forks of other with a few classes changed, others were more or less duplications with deployment parameters modified. If software development is about trade-offs then one of the ones made by an asynchronous serverless architecture is that between architectural complexity and user experience. The user wait time when invoking heavy operations is reduced and architectural complexity is increased. Instead of a synchronous call where request/response across all layers are queued up and waited for, we store the information on disk and process it later.
